The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Region 6, in coordination with the City Government of Kabankalan, held a consultative meeting with transport stakeholders affected by the routes under the approved Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of Kabankalan City on August 16, 2024 at the SP session hall.
The consultation is to collect the perspectives of both the government and private sector stakeholders who will be affected by the public transportation modernization plan.
The consultation was attended by key local officials, including Councilor Rey Cordero, Chairman of the Committee on Transportation, and SP Joe Dumaguete, Member and Chairman of the Committee on Transportation.
“We believe that it is essential to gather and discuss not only the perspectives of the government but also those of the private sector and stakeholders who are directly impacted by the modernization plan,” said Atty. Mac Lord Zafra, city administrator, said adding that the city government “remains committed to the enactment of Republic Act No. 12000, which brings the promise of growth, change, progress, and development, “
Regional Director Richard OsmeΓ±a of LTFRB Region 6 highlighted the importance of moving forward with the modernization efforts, especially with the recent approval of the Negros Island Region (NIR).
“This is for a good cause as we move forward, particularly now that the NIR has been approved,” OsmeΓ±a said.
The consultation was attended by representatives from the different Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODA), tricycle operators, mini bus and jeepney operators in Kabankalan City, Punong Barangay Giovanni Ibanez of Barangay Tapi, and students from Southland College.
