Traveling around Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental is better with the improved Kabankalan Bais Road, specifically in Barangay Tagukon in Kabankalan City, and Kabankalan-Bayawan Boundary Road delivered by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Regional Director Sanny Boy O. Oropel said these improvement efforts aim to increase road capacity, decongestion traffic, and provide convenient transportation access.

β€œThese improved roads will provide motorists and all forms of road users, and the general public with better carriageways, making safer, faster and more convenient travel. These will also facilitate better transportation access by increasing road capacity and facilitating better connection from one place to another,” RD Sanny Boy O. Oropel said.

RD Oropel added these roads will facilitate cost-efficient transport of goods and services that will help enhance local economic development, as well as easier delivery of government services even to far-flung communities in the province of Negros Occidental. widening along Kabankalan-Bais Road is the completion of the last phase of road widening from two to four lanes to provide a wider roadway that will increase traffic capacity.

The β‚±39.45-million project funded under FY 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA), involves construction of additional lane on both sides of the existing 2-lane road with the total length of 1.568 lineal kilometers. This includes construction of grouted riprap for slope protection and provision of metal guard rails, to deliver safer and more convenient transportation.

β€œThe wider road increases traffic capacity, accommodating more vehicles passing along Kabankalan-Bais Road, hence decongesting traffic and ensuring shorter travel time from one place to another,” District Engineer Rodney A. Gustilo said.

DE Gustilo added this road section also provides connection from the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental; thus, its widening is significant especially to big trucks hauling products going in and out of the two provinces.

The District has also constructed a paved road along Kabankalan-Bayawan Boundary Road, specifically in Barangay Bantayan in Kabankalan City, expanding road network, connecting far-flung communities in Purok Mambaog to barangay proper.

The β‚±67.55-million project, also funded under FY 2023 GAA, involves concreting of 2-lane road with the total length of 1.76 kilometers and total width of 8.70 meters. It also includes construction of slope protection, lined canal, concrete barriers and grouted riprap; installation of solar LED lights; and application of reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings.

This road section provides better roadway linkage between the two provinces in Negros island through Barangay Mandu-ao in Bawayan City, thus improving this road will offer comfortable and cost-efficient transportation.

These road improvement projects define the Department’s commitment to providing enhanced road network system that will help improve the life of every Filipino.
