A total of 368 residents were evacuated in Brgy. Carol-an, Kabankalan City on Monday after patrolling Army soldiers armed clashes ensued with suspected remnants of the dismantled Central Negros 2 guerilla front.
A report by Punong Barangay Jocerel Paculanang showed that 99 households of which 146 are minors and 14 are senior citizens were evacuated.
The city government led by Mayor Benjie Miranda, thru the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) distributed food packs, water and temporary shelter to all evacuees.
Initial military reports indicated that soldiers of the 94th Infantry Battalion encountered about 10 NPA rebels.
Pursuit operations were still ongoing as of last night.
The area has not yet been cleared by the military preventing personnel from the Kabankalan City DRMMO to bring assistance to the affected residents.
