A fire broke out in Kabankalan City on February 13, 2025, at the Relocation Site in Barangay 9, after a child left burning charcoal unattended. The incident resulted in significant damage to residential properties.
The fire started at 11:21 am, completely destroying two houses and partially burning two others, leaving four families displaced before Valentine’s Day.
Following an investigation, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Kabankalan confirmed that the child’s negligence was the cause of the fire, with estimated total damages of PHP 26,500.
Mayor Benjie Miranda visited the fire site, expressing his concern for the affected families.
The City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) are providing immediate relief to the victims, including:
* From CSWD: 8 food packs
* From DSWD: Family kits, kitchen kits, sleeping kits, and food packs
* Laminated sacks (40meters, 10meters each)
* Financial assistance of PHP 10,000 per family for completely damaged houses
* PHP 5,000 per family for partially damaged houses
The city government is committed to supporting the affected families during this challenging time and will continue to provide relief efforts as needed.
