The Philippine Red Cross- Negros Occidental chapter led the commemoration of Typhoon Odette.

The event, held at the K Center in Kabankalan City, kicked off with a caravan around the city and followed by a program that recognized the key individuals and organizations who provided assistance during the disaster that struck southern Negros two years ago.

Mayor Benjie Miranda said the event is aimed to remind the people of the resilience of the Kabankalanon community in times of disasters and adversity.

Various activities were conducted during the event, including health screenings, vital signs monitoring, child immunizations, and the distribution of medicines and vitamins.

Hot meals were served, dental kits were distributed, and books and lectures were provided.

Rep. Mercedes Alvarez was represented by Sipalay City Councilor Ralph Alvarez, and Angelika Alvarez.

Leading the event were Red Cross directora Carlos Ganihong, Dr. Joel Chua, Chapter Administrator Rita Benita Mirasol, Jimmy Maravilla, Chairman of Kabankalan chapter Menet Consel, Cyril Ramos of CSWD, Sandra Arellano of CHO and Punong Barangay Hope Balarga of Brgy Suay, Himamaylan City.

This commemoration event also honored the heroes who gave help during Typhoon Odette.
